Although some outlets focuses on in-country analyses, ECHO aims essentially at comparing health care systems performance across different countries.

Among the various challenges, ECHO has had to deal with the construction of a secure homogenous research infrastructure built upon individual patient level data, the adaptation and development of comparable performance indicators and robust benchmarks, or the composition of comparable geographic units of analysis.
