VARIATION METRICS IN ECHO
UPCOMING ENTRIES:
ECHO has expanded the usual approach in healthcare performance international comparison based on contrasting the average behaviour of each country, by adding the analysis of the variation, within and across countries, at different levels of interest.
This is possible since ECHO gathered individual patient level data (virtually all the discharges produced in the ECHO countries over the study period), and each discharge was allocated both to a geographic unit (the place where the patient lived) and to the hospital where the patient was treated.
The variation framework utilizes different analytical tools, most of them adapted from techniques used in epidemiology and econometrics.
