Video 25 Atlas VPM: 25 years of generating knowledge to improve healthcare systems

The research group on data science for health services and policies presents the video “Atlas VPM – 25 years generating knowledge to improve healthcare systems”, which summarises the history, impact and future of this key initiative in the analysis of the National Health System.

For more than two decades, the Atlas of Variations in Medical Practice (Atlas VPM) has analysed unjustified differences in healthcare provision in Spain, helping to improve the quality, equity and efficiency of the healthcare system.

Led by the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS), this project has established itself as a fundamental tool for evaluating healthcare performance, enabling the identification of areas for improvement and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Furthermore, it highlights the role of data science in the transformation of healthcare systems, emphasising the importance of reusing available information to generate useful knowledge for professionals, managers and public policy makers.
