This atlas describes the variability in the use of different orthopaedic surgery procedures: knee arthroplasty, hip arthroplasty, and arthrodesis, laminectomy/discectomy and back surgery.

This work describes the evolution of hospital expenditure between 2003 and 2015, and analyses, using time series methodology, whether the economic shocks of these years varied the relationship that the determining factors of expenditure.

This Atlas has been funded through the project “Preparation of a Divestment Strategy for the National Health System Based on Monitoring Unjustified Variations in Lower Value Care” (Healthcare Research Fund PI12/01884, Carlos III Health Institute), by the Research Network on Health Services in Chronic Conditions (REDISSEC RD12/0001/0004), the Institute for Health Services Research (IISS) and the Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud.
